viaLanguage Seeing Strong Growth for K-12 Education Translation Services

Districts Across the Nation Successfully Meeting Growing Multilingual Communication Requirements

Portland, Ore. - October 3, 2005 - viaLanguage, an expert in online translation and localization services for the primary education market, today announced the increase in demand for their services from school districts across the nation. Driving this boost is the rapidly growing diversity within districts, ensuring compliance of federal mandates and the possibility of new state legislation requiring more effective multilingual communication. viaLanguage is working with the districts to align school goals with an affordable, quality solution designed specifically to meet individual school translation needs. School districts that are now working with viaLanguage include Alaska, Arkansas, California, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Michigan, Nevada, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and Washington state.

"With the increasing number of immigrants, educators face tough challenges - how to effectively communicate with this community and how to meet federal requirements mandating multilingual communication," said Chanin Ballance, CEO of viaLanguage. "Mass translation is just too hard and time consuming for educators to take it all on themselves - viaLanguage provides a very affordable and streamlined solution designed specifically for the needs of the districts."

Growing Diversity - Making the Grade?
According to the US Department of Education, "there are currently 5.5 million non-English speaking students or ELLs enrolled nationwide." In many urban districts the top five languages may only cover half the students. For example, in the Baltimore County Public Schools, there are 2338 English language learner (ELL) students, 750 of them speak Spanish, about 200 Chinese and Urdu, over 100 Korean and Tagalog and more. Obviously, this growing diversity presents language and cultural challenges to our nation's educators. Additionally, today educators are faced with federal, and the possibility of new state, mandates requiring enhanced multilingual communication - such as NCLB and Titles I and III.

viaLanguage is especially equipped to handle these challenges. Through the combination of linguistic fluency, cultural sensitivity and awareness of literacy levels, viaLanguage provides the best and most affordable services for school districts. "Our district was not equipped to handle translations of such diverse range of languages," said Ariadna Clare, Manager of the English Language Learners' Education Office at the Red Clay Consolidated School District in Wilmington, Delaware. "Trying to find qualified individuals to do an in-house translation on least common languages was challenging, time intensive, and most often not successful - viaLanguage has supplied a streamlined process that is very effective and less time consuming, not to mention very professional.
